Seriously. Google “Men’s Watch Buyers Guide”. I just did. 46,200,000 results (approx.).

That’s… that’s just unnecessary. Have you ever in your life felt you needed even one guide to a purchase like that. Have friends opinions become unwarranted and indeed unwelcome in the face of “blogging” now having money behind it and being considered a job by more and more people?

Is looking in shops too hard for people?

Hell, is browsing Amazon for your options an insane prospect? You know the people who write these thinks just link to Amazon anyway. That where the money comes from. They get kickbacks from Amazon sales if they’re the one that linked you the buyer to the product.

This isn’t even taking into account with the proliferation of the smartphone, the less necessary watch ownership even is.

Maybe – and this might sound silly – we don’t need the internet or people looking to make a buck from it telling us what to do/wear/buy/envy/hate/love/etc.

Maybe we do. If we do; as a portion of the internet, my advice is this: you gotta figure a couple things out on your own sometimes. it’s not fun, but you’ll live. We’ve all been there. Buying a watch is the least of your concerns. Now friggin’ pay me goddamnit.

This is me not so much weighing in on this issue; just geeking out on this issue. But maybe! Just maybe; if we’re nice to immigrants, one might save the world some day… Then repetitively save the world… because they’re Superman.

Never in my life, until that fateful day have I left a cinema angry. Maybe it was disappointment at wanting it to be so great, so badly. Maybe, just maybe, it was the bevy of plot-holes and bizarre editing that felt like a good 15 minutes in the middle got dropped, which would explain the on-a-dime turn of emotional standpoints. I reckon one of those is the reason I didn’t like it.

There do exist people, our own Robin Taylor among them, who enjoyed Prometheus. I don’t understand it, but then I don’t have to. It’s like religion, you like a thing, I don’t like a thing; but I’m not going avoid a barbecue because a Prometheus sympathiser is present.

There also exist, people who pretend the flick doesn’t exist. Those people, are really onto something.

While often the ideas I have for comics come from external sources: pop culture, odd news stories, or just things I find an affront to the logic of human decency (read: trawling the internet when I should be in bed, resting in wait of the new day); this one is different.

It’s long occurred to me that we lie to ourselves on a very regular basis. Sometimes to our benefit, sometimes not. The man who tells himself he’s only an inch away from the top of Everest when he’s anything but, is lying to himself in order to boost his own morale – and by extension – his chance for success. The man who acts like a mafia boss in the nightclub, when in fact is an apprentice panel beater in Thomastown, is gaining nothing but the ire of the public he seeks to impress.

The biggest lie we tell ourselves of course, is that of dreams. See the marvellous piece by Jim Jeffries on dreams for a great; albeit bleak, take on that.

I am very much ok with the notion of dreams, hell, I dream of being a pro stand-up comic. When we achieve them, we’re on top of the world, and nothing can touch us.

You should probably try and have a laugh when they don’t pan out though, eh?
